With 1,883 certified projects, India ranks third among top 10
countries for LEED ( Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design)
green buildings by US Green Building Council.
In a release USGBC said "India's dominant position in the green building movement is
significant due to the country's aggressive plans to expand access to
electricity, it explosive economic growth projections and its
unprecedented and rapid urbanization". The 10 countries that made
in the list for 2015 are geographically and culturally diverse,
representing seven of the world's 20 largest single-nation economies by
Gross Domestic Product (GDP) (China, Germany, Brazil, India, Canada,
South Korea and Turkey), as well as six of the top 11 emitters of
greenhouse gases (China, India, Germany, South Korea, Canada and
Brazil).
Canada leads the list with a total of 4,814 LEED certified and registered projects. China with 2,022 such projects. India comes third with 1,883 LEEd certified projects.
In comparison, the US, which is not included in the list, has 53,908 LEED certified projects.
The projects that got LEED certification in 2014 included Ascendas IT Park in Chennai, the Thomson Reuters Bangalore Campus, the Ericsson Tower in Gurgaon, the Nirlon Knowledge Park, Building 6 in Mumbai and the DLF IT Park in Chandigarh.
